Portable document files, often referred to as "PDF" files are a good way to keep photos that you do not plan to edit or manipulate. It is also an excellent file type to use when you are giving a photo to another person, but do not want them to be able to edit or manipulate the photo. The problem is that few people want to spend the money for the full version of Adobe Acrobat to create these files. Leave it to the pros at Google to find a way to skirt this issue.

                                                 Go to the Google Documents website (see Resources).

Sign into or create your Google account.

If you already have a Google account for any other applications such as gmail or Google Analytics, you will be able to sign in using the same account information. If you have never created a Google account you will need to click the "register" button and follow the directions to create your account.

Create a new document.

The "Create New" button is located in the upper left corner of the screen. Once you click it, you will see several options for the type of project you wish to create. Of these options click "Document."

Insert your jpeg image into your document.

Click the "Insert" button located in the dark blue tool bar above your blank document. Again, you will be given a list of options. From these options click "Image."

Once you click on this, Google Documents will bring up an upload window which will allow you to browse your computer files and select the image to be inserted.

Size and place the image as you wish. The file can be moved by clicking and dragging on the center and can be resized by clicking and dragging on the small white boxes around the edge of the photo.

Save your files in Google Documents.

This can be done in two ways. The first is to click the "File" option in the dark blue tool bar and then select "Save Now." The second is to click the "Save Now" button that appears in the upper right hand corner of the document screen.

Download the file to your computer as a PDF file. This is done through the "File" tab, Click on the "File" option in the dark blue toolbar. From there, roll your mouse over the "Download As" option. You will see several file types appear to the left of "Download As." Click on "PDF."
